Lewes/Rehoboth Beach, DE
Cape Region walkways have to handle summer crowds and coastal weather, every day of the year.
Walkways in the Cape Region do more than connect driveways to front doors. They line Route 1 commercial corridors, lead visitors from parking lots to the Rehoboth Boardwalk, wind through Lewes's Historic District, and connect Cape Henlopen State Park trailheads to the beach. Every one of those surfaces needs to be level, well-drained, and built to handle both summer crowds and coastal winter weather. Tri-County Construction pours concrete sidewalks and walkways in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach with proper base prep under sandy Cape soil, broom finish for wet-foot traction, and ADA-compliant slopes at every curb cut.
Route 1 between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach carries the heaviest pedestrian traffic outside the Boardwalk itself. Retail strips, Tanger Outlets connector walks, restaurant approach paths, and hotel entryways all need concrete that stays level and clean through a season of sand, sunscreen, and foot traffic. We pour commercial-grade walkways with 4-5 inch slabs, fiber mesh reinforcement, and broom finish for traction. In areas where delivery trucks or maintenance vehicles cross the walkway — common at Rehoboth hotels and outlet plazas — we reinforce the slab section and plan the approach so the concrete doesn't crack under occasional wheel loads.
The Rehoboth Boardwalk approach walks and Lewes Historic District paths have different requirements. Boardwalk-adjacent properties in Rehoboth Pines and Country Club Estates need walkways that transition from sand to concrete without creating tripping hazards. We set the walkway elevation to account for wind-blown sand, pitch for stormwater drainage (coastal storms drop inches in hours), and use a tight broom finish that gives barefoot traction. In Lewes, the Historic District demands walkways that respect the 18th- and 19th-century streetscape while meeting modern access standards. We keep joints clean, finishes consistent with the period character, and coordinate with the town when work affects public right-of-way.
Vacation-rental walkways are a maintenance item most owners don't think about until a guest complains. A cracked front walk or a sunken stepping stone at a rental in Henlopen Acres or near Dewey Beach creates a liability issue fast. We replace failing walkways with proper base and reinforcement, grade so water doesn't pool, and seal the surface to resist the salt and sand that gets tracked in from beach days. For multi-unit rental properties, we coordinate walkway replacements between booking windows so the disruption stays minimal.
From a Boardwalk-facing shop in Rehoboth to a Historic District home on Pilottown in Lewes, every walkway project starts with a site walk. We look at existing conditions, drainage, traffic patterns, and access, then provide a written estimate. The Cape Region walkway should be as durable as the seasons are demanding.
